Email Setup

Dartmouth has made it even easier for you to connect to your email account using Office 365. Choose the application and computer type from the list below to connect any device you’d like with your Dartmouth email account.

  • With Outlook 2016 open, click Outlook in the file menu at the top of your screen and then click Preferences
  • At the Accounts screen, click the plus (+) at the bottom of the window and then choose Exchange
  • Fill in the following fields accordingly:
    • Email Address: Enter your full, Dartmouth email address
    • Method: Leave User Name and Password selected
    • User Name:
    • Password: Enter your Dartmouth email password
    • Configure Automatically: Leave this box checked.
    • Click Add Account to finish
  • Outlook will begin connecting to Dartmouth’s server and you will see the message Detecting Exchange Server… at the bottom of the window
  • Once it has contacted the server, an authentication window will appear. Check the box next to Always use my response for this server and then click Allow
  • Your new account has been created. Back at the Accounts window, you can change the description of the account to anything you’d like. Close the window by licking the red, x in the top left side of the window when you are finished.
  • Open Outlook. If this is the first time you are opening any Office Suite product, you will need to Activate your Office Suite, otherwise click Next at the the Welcome to Outlook… screen
  • Check the radio next to Yes when asked “Do you want to set up Outlook to connect to an email account?” and then click the Next button.
  • Enter the following fields accordingly:
    • Your Name: Enter your full name as you want it displayed
    • Email Address: Enter your full email address as given to you by Dartmouth College
    • Password: Enter the email password you created
    • Retype Password: Re-enter the email password you created
    • Once all of your information has been entered, click the Next button.
  • Outlook will establish a connection with Dartmouth’s mail server. once it has, two windows will pop up that need attention:
    • At the Windows Security window, click Use another account and then enter the following values accordingly:

      • Username:
      • Password: Your Dartmouth email password
      • Remember my credentials: Make sure this check box is checked
      • Click the OK button once finished
    • At the Allow this website to configure… window, check the box next to Don’t ask me about this website again and then click the Allow button.
  • Once it has finished authenticating your account with Dartmouth’s mail server, you will see three green checkboxes and the Finish button will now be active. You can choose to add another account, or click Finish if that is the only account you need to add. These steps can always be repeated at a different time if access to more accounts is necessary.
    • Install the Outlook email app from the App Store.
    • Once it has finished downloading and installing, run the app and click the “Get Started” button
    • Proceed through the introduction screen until you are able to click the “Add an Account” button. Click the “Add an Account” button and at the Add an Account screen, choose “Office 365” as the option.
    • At the Sign In screen, enter your Dartmouth NetID in the format: [yournetid] Enter your NetID/email password and click “Sign In” button.

      • Note: You may not have to enter your password as Outlook will recognize the domain and redirect you to Dartmouth’s WebSSO (shown in next step)
    • At Dartmouth’s WebSSO login page, enter your NetID and Pasword and click the “Sign In” button.
    • You will see the spinning indicator whilst Outlook fetches your account information. Once finished, you will be taken to your Outlook inbox. Please be patient as it may take some time for your Inbox to populate with messages.
