Printer Setup: Plotter Printer

These instructions are for the HP DesignJet 800PS located on the third floor of 35 Centerra Parkway. It is in the supply area and available to students, staff, and faculty on-site.

Note: You will experience the least amount of issues if you convert whatever you want to print to a PDF before sending it to the printer and trying to make it ‘fit’ the larger paper size. We will be creating a video tutorial to cover this process on Mac and Windows PCs soon. This area will be updated with links to the tutorials.

  • First, you’ll need to make sure your Mac has the HP Printer Software package. It can be downloaded here.
  • Even if you already have the software installed, it won’t hurt to re-install it to make sure you have the latest drivers.
  • After the install completes, open System Preferences.
  • Click Print & Scan.
  • Print & Scan

  • Click the ‘+’ button to install the Plotter Printer.
  • Print & Scan 2

  • Select ‘IP’.
  • In the Address field, enter ‘129.170.60.23’.
  • Type ‘Plotter Printer’ in the Name field.
  • The ‘Use’ field should automatically select the DesignJet 800PS driver. If it doesn’t, click the dropdown menu and Select Printer Software. Find the appropriate HP printer.

  • Click OK.
  • Go to the Start Menu. Select Devices and Printers (if you’re running Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8.1). If you’re running Windows XP, please schedule time with us to have your laptop updated.

  • At the printer driver screen, click the ‘Windows Update’ button if you’re on Windows 7 (Windows 8/8.1 users should already have the driver available in the list). The update process happens in the background and can take up to five minutes.
